Genser PGA Championship Planning Committee member calls for greater youth participation in golf

Roger Adamah, a prominent golfer and member of the planning committee for the 11th Genser PGA Championship, has called for a concerted effort to involve children in the sport of golf.

Adamah believes early exposure and grooming can produce future international champions.  "Parents and guardians should introduce their wards to golf," Adamah urged.

"The kids are the future stars, and the earlier we prepare and groom them, the more likely they are to become international champions."

Adamah’s appeal comes amid the success of the 11th Genser PGA Championship, which showcased the immense talent and potential in Ghana’s golfing landscape.

His vision aligns with the broader goal of nurturing a new generation of golfers who can compete on global stages.

Support from the Organising Committee

Hans De Beer, chairman of the organising committee for the Genser PGA Championship and president of Tarkwa and Damang Golf Clubs, echoed Adamah’s sentiments.

"The idea to build for the future through the kids is excellent,"* De Beer said. "We’ve seen an increase in women professionals in the country, and now they are facing challenges from other African countries. It’s important we also develop the youth to remain competitive."

De Beer, who now works with Genser Energy, emphasised the importance of creating pathways for young golfers while commending the rising prominence of women in Ghanaian golf.

Building momentum for the future

The call to action for youth participation in golf comes on the heels of Lucky Annan Ayisah’s victory at the 11th Genser PGA Championship. Ayisah’s triumph, achieved with a score of 277 over four days at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono, has been a source of inspiration.

Ayisah commended the planning committee for their efforts and expressed hope for more victories in the future. His win, coupled with the vision of leaders like Adamah and De Beer, highlights the potential of Ghana’s golfing community to achieve even greater success.
