United Kingdom-based Ghana government scholarship students are to undergo a mandatory oath and validation exercise before they can continue as beneficiaries, the Ghana High Commission in the UK has announced.
According to the High Commission, the one month validation exercise beginning from August 13 to September 4, 2026, follows a directive by the Ghana Scholarships Authority aimed at ensuring that beneficiaries return to Ghana to serve after their studies.
A public notice dated August 5, 2026 issued the High Commission said the students are required to personally swear an oath before a designated officer of a Ghana diplomatic mission.
Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson warned that students who fail to complete the validation and oath-taking process will not be considered for future scholarship payments.
“We have received the second quarter payment, which we will start disbursing soon. But in accordance with the new Act, we are going to validate all students; they will take an oath that they will return to Ghana to serve. Breach of the oath will lead to a refund of all monies spent on the student plus interest. Students who fail to comply with validation and oath-taking will not be considered going forward,” she said.
According to the High Commission, the exercise is being conducted pursuant to Section 31 of the Ghana Scholarships Authority Act, 2025 (Act 1149) and Section 11 of the Oaths Act, 1972 (NRCD 6). These provisions require beneficiaries of Government scholarships studying outside Ghana to personally subscribe to an Oath of Affirmation before a designated officer of a Ghana diplomatic mission.
