Two dead, five injured in Mankessim-Accra highway crash

Two people died on Thursday while five others sustained various injuries in a road traffic crash at Abor Junction on the Mankessim-Accra section of the N1 highway in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased, a man and a woman, died at the scene, while the injured, comprising two women and three men, were taken to the hospital for treatment. 

The driver of the vehicle escaped the crash unhurt.

The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu said a rescue team from the Mankessim Fire Station, working in collaboration with the National Ambulance Service arrived at the scene to find a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 8911-25 extensively damaged after the crash.

He said nine occupants were involved in the accident, comprising two females and seven males.

He said three of the injured victims were transported to the Mercy Women Catholic Hospital at Mankessim for emergency medical care, while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the Saltpond Government Hospital mortuary.

He added that the cause of the accident was yet to be established.
