Premier League newcomers Coventry City have completed the signing of Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish club Nordsjaelland for a club-record fee.
The 20-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Sky Blues, who are reportedly paying an initial €27 million (£23.1 million) for the Ghana international, with a further €3 million (£2.5 million) potentially due in add-ons.
Yirenkyi becomes Coventry’s fifth signing of the summer following the club’s return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence under head coach Frank Lampard.
The midfielder made his senior international debut for Ghana in May 2025 and represented the Black Stars at this summer’s World Cup. He scored a stoppage-time winner in Ghana’s group-stage victory over Panama.
Yirenkyi said Coventry’s plans and playing style were key factors in his decision to join the club.
“When I spoke to the head coach about the plans and the style, it's something I really like, and I look forward to learning from him,” he said.
The youngster also expressed his desire to continue developing at the club.
“I'm still young so I want to learn from the head coach, the other players and work really hard for the team.”
Yirenkyi began his football development at the Right to Dream Academy before joining Nordsjaelland in 2024. He enjoyed a breakthrough season in Denmark, winning the Danish Superliga Young Player of the Year award last season.
Although his primary position is in midfield, Yirenkyi has demonstrated considerable versatility, having also featured at right-back for both Nordsjaelland and Ghana.
His move to Coventry represents a major step in his young career and makes him the club's record signing as they prepare for their return to England's top flight.
