GFA promotes women’s football in Bolga

The Women’s Football Development Department of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has organised a campaign to promote women’s football in northern Ghana.

The campaign forms part of the football governing body's efforts to promote women’s football throughout the country and had support from the Upper East, Upper West and Northern Regional Football Associations (RFAs).

A delegation of women's football advocates, led by the head of Women's Football Development at the GFA, Ama Brobey-Williams, visited the Bolgatanga Senior High School where they engaged over 1,000 female students on women’s football and its prospects for the Ghanaian girl child. 

The engagement centred around the promotion of the sport among the girls and to encourage the active participation of girls in different aspects of the football industry. 

Female school teams also had a chance to discuss and learn more about the women's game as the resource persons, including football administrators Evelyn Nsiah-Asare and Winifred Mawudeku, provided answers to questions posed by the students.

A FIFA representative, Hesterine de Reus, who was part of the women's football development team, later visited the GFA’s Technical Centre located within the Bolgatanga SHS, which serves as a strategic base for elite talent identification programmes in the northern part of Ghana.

The Women's Football Department of the FA is liaising with women's football regional Football Associations to develop tailor-made programmes to promote the game in their regions.
