GH₵ 12.5m Accra Stadium renovation contract awarded to Coupbay

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has awarded an eight-month contract worth GH₵12,500,000 to Coupbay Ghana Limited for the renovation of the dilapidated Accra Sports Stadium.
According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah the GH₵12.5m contract includes a consultancy fee worth GH₵ 2m.
Briefing the media on the contract yesterday, Mr Asiamah disclosed that the extent and cost of deterioration of the edifice last renovated 10 years ago in 2008 when Ghana hosted the AFCON was estimated by Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL).
He said Coupbay Ghana Limited was selected after a rigorous selection process to undertake Phase One Rehabilitation of selected structures of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The scope of work contained in the contract include;
- Re-roofing of the VIP Lounge.
- Replacement of damaged steel stands, seperators, defective bolts in bottling systems to steel structural members at the Orange and VIP stands,
- Coating and painting of structural steel members with appropriate protection chemicals/paints.
- Repairs of the scoreboard.
"Per the contractual agreement, the works are going to be completed in September 2018," Mr Asiamah stated on Wednesday before the commencement of the works by Coupbay Ghana Limited.
Mr Asiamah also stated that his outfit in collaboration with the contractor would ensure that the facility would be ready to host games during the 2018 African Women's Champions slated for November 17-December 1, 2018.
