Ghana Armed Forces keep top spot as Professional Boxing League returns

Ghana Armed Forces maintained its position on top of the log as the Ghana Professional Boxing League returned last Saturday night after a month-long break due to the ban on drumming and noisemaking within Ga Mashie and its environs as part of preparations for the Ga Homowo festival.

The army team chalked up its fifth victory in six bouts in the competition as Jerry Lartey secured a fourth round Technical Knockout (TKO) victory over Bernard Abbey of Panix Gym in their super-lightweight contest.

The Bukom Boxing Arena again witnessed a large crowd of boxing enthusiasts, business executives, members of the diplomatic corps and a former Black Stars great, Laryea Kingston, at ringside.
Following in second position on the log is Akotoku Academy, three points off the leaders, after Ernest Ampah and Aminu Quarshie of Attoh Quarshie Gym fought to a majority draw in a rematch of their super welterweight contest last October which also ended in a draw. The judges scored the bout 57-57, 57-57, 56-57.

Takyi returns
Olympic bronze medallist Samuel Takyi made a strong statement in his first bout in the competition with a dominant performance and a third round TKO victory over Anama Dotse. 
In the first bout on the night, Sulley Mohammed of Sea View Gym scored a split points decision over Sunday Adeleye of The Gym in a six-round lightweight contest. The judges scored the fight 57-56, 57-58, 59-55 in Mohammed's favour.

Crowd favourite Emmanuel Mawuli of Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation made quick work of relatively unknown Aaron Ashley of Wisdom Boxing Gym, unleashing a heavy left hook which sent Ashley crashing to the canvas in the opening round of their super-flyweight encounter.

In other encounters, Azumah Mohamed of Ghana Prisons Service secured a majority points decision over Emmanuel Nii Noi of black Panthers Gym in a bloody super-lightweight encounter, Daniel Quaye delivered a fourth round TKO victory against his more experienced opponent, Benard Ankrah, in a super-lightweight contest.

Teenage sensation Cann Neequaye, a student of Accra Academy SHS, continued to impress in his young career as he wasted no time to dispatch Hope Mawuli with a first round TKO victory in their super-bantamweight contest.
Referee David Tetteh stopped the bout in one minute and 33 seconds into the opening round to save Mawuli from further punishment.
