Gold Stars FC surge to top spot
Gold Stars FC stormed to the top of the Ghana Premier League with a resounding 3-0 victory over Accra Lions at the WAFA Park in Sogakope.
The visitors were in ruthless form, dismantling a struggling Lions side to leapfrog Heart of Lions and take charge of the league.
Samuel Attah Kumi was the star of the show, claiming a sensational hat-trick to secure Gold Stars' biggest away win of the season. His goals came in quick succession: the first in the 14th minute, the second just before half-time in the 44th, and the third just seconds into the second half, in the 46th minute.
The Miners, who have been in excellent form this term, showed their clinical edge, making it their ninth victory of the season.
With the win, Gold Stars now sit comfortably at the top of the table, pushing aside Heart of Lions, while their impressive attacking display will certainly send a message to the chasing pack.
Kotoko win
Meanwhile, at the Baba Yara Stadium, Asante Kotoko continued their strong campaign with a dominant 4-1 victory over Vision FC. Kwame Opoku extended his fine form with a brace, playing a pivotal role in securing the three points for the Porcupines.
Kotoko were in control from the off, with Opoku opening the scoring as early as the sixth minute. Vision FC responded with a well-taken goal from Nana Akwesi Amoah in the 22nd minute, drawing the visitors level.
However, the home side regained the lead soon after through Peter Amidu, and Opoku netted his second of the match in the 37th minute to make it 3-1. Saaka Dauda rounded off the victory with a fourth goal in the 44th minute, ensuring Kotoko kept the pressure on the leaders.
Kotoko’s commanding performance moves them into third place with 31 points, just two points adrift of leaders Gold Stars. Vision FC, on the other hand, remain mid-table in 11th place with 19 points.
At the Nsenkyire Arena, defending champions FC Samartex 1996 played out a goalless draw with Hearts of Oak. The two sides were unable to break each other down in a tightly contested encounter, and the points were shared after 90 minutes of frustrating stalemate.
