Ghana Olympic Committee set for court
The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) is set for a legal battle with the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) on July 28 at the Accra High Court as it seeks to overturn an interlocutory injunction placed on its annual congress.
The GOC was officially served with the writ of summons and an application for interlocutory injunction by GWF last Saturday before their abortive congress at the Theodosia Okoh Stadium in Accra.
According to Mr Akpokavie, his outfit would soon file their defence and contest the suit to the best of their ability.
Meanwhile, the President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, Mawuko Afadzinu, is unhappy that the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Congress, scheduled for last Saturday, could not come off due to an interlocutory injunction initiated by a member of the weightlifting association, Ben Nunoo Mensah.
It was a last-minute action which disrupted proceedings set to begin at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey pitch, but just as the congress was about to begin, one Yao Agbovi, a bailiff from the Accra High Court, served the third respondent, Mr Richard Akpokavie, with the injunction.
However, Mr Afadzinu insisted that there should have been behind-the-scene moves to ensure the congress was held.
“This problem could have been settled among us as colleagues and those aggrieved could have come to the congress to resolve their grievances rather than going to the courts,” he contended.
