Ghana Open Taekwondo begins today
The First Ghana Open International Taekwondo Championship comes off today at the D.G. Hithramani Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The championship is being patronised by over 130 taekwondo athletes from 15 countries, including host Ghana, which is being represented by 34 athletes.
The participating countries include Benin, USA, Morocco, Togo, Senegal Nigeria and Turkey.
The President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), Frederick Larety Otu, told the Daily Graphic that the competition would help to spread the taekwondo sport to every part of the country.
“So far, a chunk of the referees and officials from other countries have arrived for the two-day competition which is scheduled for today and tomorrow”, he said.
The championship is expected to boost Ghana’s clout in taekwondo and also expose Ghanaian taekwondo athletes to international standards and enhance their ranking among the world’s best.
