Ghana wins another gold in Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship

United Kingdom (UK)-based weightlifter, Forrester Osei, yesterday put up a spirited performance to give Ghana another gold medal at the ongoing IWF Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Penang, Malaysia.

Osei pulled 138kg in Snatch and 172 KG in Clean and Jerk to outwit his two closest Australian competitors who surrendered when they could not match his speed, agility and pedigree.

 He competed with two Australians, two Sri Lankans and an Indian in a competition described as tight and competitive.

With this win, Ghana’s total medal haul at the games increased to two gold, a silver and a bronze medal which was also won by Richmond Osarfo in the junior 94kg after his lift of 280kg which won him Silver last Wednesday in the youth division was ranked him third in the junior division.

Earlier on Wednesday, Christian Amoah and Richmond Osarfo won gold and silver in the 85 kg and 94 kg respectively and promised to up their game as they prepared to show their class at the Japan 2020 Olympiad.

Team Ghana is expected back home on Monday afternoon.
