Ghana’s Black Queens set for tough test against European champions England
The Black Queens of Ghana are set for a major international test as they line up against England’s Lionesses in a friendly on 2nd December 2025, following an agreement between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the English Football Association.
The game comes at a crucial time for Ghana as the team intensifies preparations for the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and other upcoming international assignments.
Having reached the semi-finals of the 2024 WAFCON, the Black Queens are eager to consolidate their status as one of Africa’s rising forces in women’s football. Facing England, currently ranked among the world’s best and reigning European champions, is expected to provide a stern challenge that will test the team’s resilience and tactical strength.
Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren described the fixture as an important opportunity to evaluate his side’s progress and expose the players to top-level competition. “This is a golden chance to measure where we stand, identify our strengths, and correct areas that need improvement,” he said.
The December clash is also seen as a platform for the Black Queens to showcase Ghana’s growing reputation in women’s football while giving the players invaluable experience against one of the most dominant sides in the women’s game.
Motivated by their resurgence in continental competitions, the Black Queens are determined to put up a spirited performance in London to underline their ambitions and inspire confidence ahead of the WAFCON qualifiers.
