Ghana’s sporting success due to reforms — Adams

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stated that Ghana’s recent sporting achievements are the result of deliberate reforms and targeted investments.

Speaking at the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards last Saturday, Mr Adams said the ministry had taken bold steps over the past two years to restructure and strengthen the sector—measures that are now yielding visible progress.

“We took hard decisions, we invested deliberately and Ghana is reaping the results,” he emphasised.

The minister cited the Black Stars' qualification for the FIFA World Cup, the resurgence of the Black Queens and the University for Development Studies’ (UDS) historic triumph at the Universities World Cup in China as key examples of the nation’s upward trajectory.

“Our athletes have excelled across disciplines and Ghana has repositioned itself as a credible force in African and global sport,” he noted.

Mr Adams stressed that the improvements being witnessed were a product of policy direction, preparation and discipline, not luck. He encouraged all stakeholders to maintain the momentum to ensure sustained progress.

“This performance is the product of policy, preparation and discipline—not luck,” he said. “We must build on this foundation and resist the temptation to relax. Success rewards consistency.”
