Gold Stars edge All Blacks to maintain perfect start
Defending Premier League champions Bibiani GoldStars maintained their perfect start to the Ghana Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Swedru All Blacks at the Swedru Sports Stadium last Saturday.
A decisive strike from Michael Nkoah just two minutes into the second half proved enough to hand the champions all three points in a tightly contested Matchday 4 encounter.
The newly promoted All Blacks began brightly, urged on by their passionate home supporters and dominated large spells of the first half. They created several promising chances but were let down by poor finishing and the defensive organisation of GoldStars, marshalled by the experienced Vincent Atingah.
After weathering the early storm, GoldStars found their breakthrough shortly after the interval. Nkoah timed his run to perfection to latch onto a clever through ball, displayed composure inside the box and calmly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper to break the deadlock.
The hosts pushed forward in search of an equaliser, with substitute, Hakim Mohammed, coming agonisingly close in stoppage time when his thunderous effort struck the crossbar. Earlier, Samuel Atta Kumi was denied a second for GoldStars when his close-range attempt rattled the upright.
Despite All Blacks’ spirited late surge, GoldStars’ experience and tactical discipline proved decisive as they held firm to record their second straight league win, extending their perfect start to the season and reinforcing their credentials as strong contenders to defend their crown.
