Graphic pledges support for 2018 Women's AFCON
The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) has pledged its commitment to support the upcoming Women's Africa Cup of Nations to ensure it is a resounding success.
According to the acting Managing Director of the company, Mr Ransford Tetteh, publicity for the tournament had been very low, but said that with less than two weeks to the November 17 kick-off, the company was ready to help whip up interest among the public ahead of the competition.
He made the observation when the Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the tournament, Madam Freda Prempeh, paid a visit to the Graphic offices yesterday in the company of some LOC officials and the tournament mascot, Agrohemaa, as part of efforts to promote the November 17 to December 1 tournament.
Mr Tetteh expressed his disappointment that although the competition was being hosted in the country, the female national team, Black Queens, were not enjoying as much publicity as their male counterparts often receive in the media.
While appealing to Ghanaians to rally support for the national team, he gave an assurance that the Daily Graphic would publish a a special supplement on the tournament as the company's contribution towards whipping up public interest in the tournament.
The Director of Marketing and Sales of the GCGL, Mr Franklin Sowa, said the company's online platforms would also be used to create more awareness among Ghanaians.
He hinted that the company and the LOC would explore the possibility of using the Daily Graphic and its online platform to help raise funds from the public to support the national women’s team.
Madam Prempeh pledged that her team was determined to organise a successful tournament and added that the LOC was working hard to ensure they left a lasting legacy for women’s football and for Ghana.
She noted that it was important that the Daily Graphic and its sister brands helped to promote the tournament massively to ensure that the public throngs the Accra and Cape Coast stadia not only to support the Black Queens to win the tournament but also watch the other matches.
She revealed that prices of tickets for the matches had been pegged as low as GH¢5 to ensure that as many football fans as possible, including schoolchildren, got an opportunity to watch Africa’s finest teams at the first ever continental women’s tournament to be staged in Ghana.
