Oppong defied all odds to win last year's competition and took home a trophy plus a pool table as his prize and must fight to retain his glory.

The NPT is an annual competition which sees pool players across the country converging in Accra to challenge for the topmost award in the grand finale which is expected to attract a mammoth crowd to the venue.

According to the organiser of the NPT, Nudzor Agbanu, the competition promises to be fierce this year considering the competitive nature of the regional qualifiers.

Mr Agbanu added that he was hopeful of a successful event and stressed on his commitment to help develop the sport in the country.

"I foresee a fierce competition in the grand finale on Saturday with the kind of games I saw during the regional qualifiers," Mr Agbanu said in an interview with the Daily Graphic.
