Information on Pooley’s killer: Bechem United reaffirms GH¢100,000 bounty

Bechem United has reiterated that the GH¢100,000 bounty placed on information leading to the arrest of the killer(s) of Yaw Frimpong, alias Pooley, remains in force.

According to the club’s President, Kingsley Owusu Achau, despite no one coming forward with credible information leading to an arrest, the club remained committed to ensuring justice was served.

The remains of the late Pooley were laid to rest last week as the security authorities continue to work to unravel the killers of the Asante Kotoko fan who was stabbed in January during a game between Nsoatreman and Kotoko.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports in an interview, Mr Achau emphasised that the reward was still available for anyone who would provide details that could help in the apprehension of the perpetrators.

"Our rationale for doing this is simple—we believe that a peaceful league benefits everyone involved," he stated.

Mr Achau explained that Bechem United was keen on unmasking those responsible for the heinous crime and believed that financial incentives were a crucial tool in aiding law enforcement. He pointed to international practices, particularly in Germany, where similar strategies had been employed successfully.

“We know a lot of people are working to support the police with information. In developed countries, they offer huge amounts that an informant knows he cannot earn in his lifetime,” he said.

He also recalled past recommendations made to the Ghana Police Service, encouraging them to adopt such strategies during periods of heightened crime in the country.

The Bechem United chairman further noted that incidents like this discouraged people from attending league matches, affecting both clubs and the growth of local football. He urged all stakeholders to join hands in fighting hooliganism and ensuring the safety of fans at stadiums.

Yaw Frimpong’s tragic death remains unresolved, and Bechem United hopes that this renewed call for information will lead to a breakthrough in the case.
