Acknowledging that Ghana is not currently among the giants of tennis, Mr. Fakhry stated that with strategic backing and hard work, the country could reclaim its past glory in the sport. “Ghana may not be a top nation as far as tennis is concerned, but we believe that with this support, very good players would emerge to return Ghana to her glory days,” he remarked.
The tournament saw Johnson Acquah dominate the men’s division, defeating Reginald Okantey 6-2, 6-0, while Tracey Ampah triumphed over Sisu Tomegah 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the women’s category.
Mr. Fakhry emphasized that achieving success would require commitment and rigorous effort from players. “That would, however, not come on a silver platter. The players must work towards it. They must train to achieve that,” he advised.
Tournament organizer, Peter Annan, expressed his gratitude to Interplast Limited for its sponsorship, which he said has been instrumental in unearthing talents across the country. Similarly, Mr. Edmund Annan, a patron of the club, noted that Interplast’s support should serve as motivation for Ghana's top players to aspire for greatness.
The spread of talent across regions was highlighted as a positive development, with Mr. Annan commending the championship's ability to showcase exceptional performances nationwide.
He reiterated the importance of continued sponsorship to sustain the momentum and produce players capable of raising Ghana's profile on the global tennis stage.
