Ayew's contributions were pivotal in securing victories and points for Crystal Palace. He notably provided the assist for Odsonne Edouard's match-winning goal on the season's opening day against Sheffield United. Additionally, Ayew played a crucial role in setting up Joachim Andersen's equalizer against Brentford and Edouard's goal, which initiated a dramatic comeback against Plymouth Argyle.
In the fan poll, Ayew secured a significant 29.7% of the votes, placing him ahead of second-placed Joachim Andersen with 20.4% and third-placed Ebere Eze with 18.9%. Jefferson Lerma was not far behind with 17.6% of the votes.
Speaking to Palace TV, an elated Ayew expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the award. He credited the support he received from the fans, the club, and the staff since the arrival of manager Roy Hodgson.
Ayew highlighted the positive influence of Hodgson on his performance, stating, "He’s been really good to me and putting me into positions where I can express myself and feel more comfortable. He gives me the freedom to express myself, and as a player, that’s all you can ask for."
The Crystal Palace star also emphasized his commitment to making a difference in every game and acknowledged that the season was still in its early stages, with many more matches ahead. Ayew concluded optimistically, "It's still the start of the season, there are still a lot of games to go, and hopefully it'll continue."
