Gov’t declares Wednesdays as official “Fugu Day”

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has announced a new national initiative encouraging all Ghanaians and friends of Ghana to wear Fugu (Batakari) every Wednesday.

The move, according to a statement signed by the sector Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, aims to preserve and promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage while fostering national pride and identity.

The initiative is also expected to generate significant social and economic benefits by empowering local weavers, designers, artisans, and traders across the value chain.

The government believes the collective adoption of Fugu will strengthen national unity, stimulate the creative economy, and serve as a symbol of Ghana’s cultural confidence.
