Joshua Clottey backs Isaac Dogboe to take his chance

Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight champion, Joshua Clottey, has called on Isaac 'Royal Storm' Dogboe to make his chance for the vacant WBO super featherweight championship count when he takes on Robeisy Ramirez in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on April 1.

Clottey expressed confidence in Dogboe's capabilities and said he believed his compatriot could shock the world by becoming a two-division world champion.

The 28-year-old Dogboe is scheduled to face Ramirez for the vacant title after title holder, Emanuel Navarrete, moved up in weight to face Liam Wilson for the WBO 135 pounds title.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Clottey described the bout as a tough one that would offer Dogboe the opportunity to prove his worth in the featherweight division.

"I am glad to see him come back stronger after those setbacks against Navarrete some years ago and I am confident he can deliver.

"He is a great fighter and I am confident he would come out victorious against one of the toughest in the division," said Clottey.

Dogboe (24-2,15 KOs) is on a four-fight winning streak since suffering two consecutive defeats to Navarrete.

Meanwhile, Ramirez lost by a shocking split decision to Adan Gonzalez in his pro debut in August 2019 but has since bounced back to win 11 consecutive bouts.
