‘Kenichi going nowhere’:As Hearts launch for new players

Hearts of Oak’s expatriate coach, Kenich Yatsuhashi, will continue in his job contrary to speculations that he was on the firing line following the team’s string of unimpressive shows since taking up the technical reins at the Phobians, writes Andy Quao.

At a Strategic Committee meeting of Hearts in Accra yesterday, which was highly speculated to deal a blow to the Americo-Japanese coach, such an action was hardly considered as the beefing up of the playing squad was what dominated the agenda.

According to inside sources at the meeting, what was paramount was the launch of a strong bid for some Premier League players to augment their squad at this stage of their off-season preparations.

The source told the Graphic Sports yesterday that the meeting did not take a decision on the coach, but rather completed the signing of some top Premier League players and launched the bid for others.

“So far we have succeeded with Wa All Stars’ Richard Akrofi, a strong central defender expected to strengthen our backline”, he added.

The Strategic Committee, according to the source, is also working to sign midfielder, Bennette Ofori, from Berekum Chelsea.

But said it appeared the Phobians would have a hurdle to clear as Chelsea were demanding GHc90,000 for the release of the midfielder, who was an off-season target of rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

The source also disclosed that the Phobians might conclude negotiations for the signing of Liberty Professionals goalkeeper, Daniel Adjei, this week

The Strategic Committee, chaired by Mr Vincent Sowah Odotei, was appointed two weeks ago by the Board of Directors of the club.
