King Faisal suit on GFA Presidential Election adjourned to Sept 19

The injunction application brought forth by King Faisal Football Club against the impending 2023 Ghana Football Association (GFA) Elections has encountered yet another delay.

In a virtual courtroom session convened today (Wednesday, September 6, 2023), legal representatives from both sides reached a consensus to adjourn the hearing to a later date. As a result, the rescheduled court hearing is now slated for Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

This development has left the electoral process in a state of suspension, with candidate vetting already completed. King Faisal, the instigator of this legal action, aims to halt the originally scheduled presidential election, scheduled for September 27th in Tamale, initiated by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The incumbent GFA President, Kurt Okraku, faces a formidable challenge from George Afriyie, the former Vice President of the association, for the highest office of Ghana football.

King Faisal Football Club's primary argument advocates for a delay in the presidential elections until the elections for representatives of the National League clubs, Regional Football Associations, and other affiliated groups have concluded. They also seek a formal declaration that a legitimate Congress cannot proceed to elect the President until new representatives for the Executive Council (Exco) have been duly elected.

Moreover, King Faisal contends that the election of a new GFA President prior to the selection of Exco representatives is not in alignment with established regulations. Furthermore, any decision made by the current Exco members pertaining to the GFA President's election before the appointment of Exco representatives is viewed by King Faisal as a breach of trust, confidence, and loyalty.
