Kotoko out of MTN FA Cup

Former MTN-FA Cup champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, were last Sunday shown the exit from this year’s FA Cup competition by Bechem United, who beat them 3-2 in their quarter-finals encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The two sides had tied 1-1 after extra time before Tetteh Abednego, Issah Adamu and Yaw Arnold secured victory for Bechem as they converted their penalties during the shoot-out.

Evans Quao and Emanuel Osei scored for Kotoko while skipper Amos Frimpong, Kojo Poku and Duada Mohammed, who earlier missed a spot kick during regulation time wasted their kicks.

Attacker Yaw Arnold scored a seventh minute leader for Bechem but Bennett Ofori equalised in the 55th for Kotoko from a well worked out plan initiated by Duada Mohammed.

Despite conceding early in the game, Coach Michael Osei and his charges kept their composure and pushed for the equaliser with incessant attacks.  However, they had to wait until the 55th minute before Ofori fondly called C Roo equalised.

Strangely enough, Bechem, who had all the opportunity to seal the game  in the second half resorted to delay tactics  compelling Referee Prince Amoah of Assin Fosu to flash out the yellow cards to a number of their players including goalkeeper Prince Asempa in the 75th minute.

They were, however, punished in the 84th minute when the referee awarded a spot kick to Kotoko after a Bechem defender handled the ball in their “18”.

Striker Duada Mohammed wasted the resultant kick to the chagrin of the home fans.
