Kotoko players celebrate with goal scorer Ahmed Adams (3rd left)

Kotoko overpower Liberty

Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Sunday put the smiles back on the faces of their supporters when they handed 10-man Liberty Professionals a 3-1 defeat in their Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

It was a performance that the Porcupine Warriors needed to revive the spirit of the club after it hit rock bottom in the past weeks.  The result must have been thrilling to those who took the decision to sideline Coach David Duncan for his assistant, Michael Osei, to take temporary responsibility of the technical bench.

It was not a vintage performance by Kotoko, but the urgency and the non-stop attack displayed by the players was good enough to send the right signals to management. The result was Kotoko’s first win in three matches and their second in the eight-match-old league.

Riding on the back of last Sunday’s 5-1 annihilation of defending league champions, AshantiGold, Liberty were a pale shadow of themselves but for the second minute individual brilliance by diminutive Latif Blessing which opened the scores.

Despite the dominance, Kotoko had to wait till the 22nd minute when defender Ahmed Adams rose to head home the equaliser before striker Duada Mohammed added the second in the 33rd minute.

Skipper Amos Frimpong converted a spot kick in the 88th minute to increase the tally to three.
