Kotoko ready for Jagodina

A sense of optimism and rejuvenation is the impression Kumasi Asante Kotoko hope to leave on the minds of their fans as they host Serbian club, FC Jagodina, in a friendly game at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

This is to help them announce their determination to conquer the local scene once again following a shambolic performance last season that saw them end each game in a confrontation with the fans.

But as to whether Jagodina are a side to present the Porcupine Warriors with the needed test to determine their preparedness for the upcoming season remains a huge puzzle yet to unravel considering their performance in the Serbian league.

Currently, the European club is flirting with relegation in the Serbia league where they lie 14th on the 16 club league table. And with this performance, connoisseurs are not convinced about their pedigree and whether they possess the wherewithal to match the determined Porcupine Warriors.

Jagodina might not be doing well but they boast an array of young players from all over the world including Ghana’s, Francis Kyeremeh, whose assistance would be counted on alongside others such as Mladen Popovic, Italian Milos Deletic, Montenegro’s  due of Jovan Baosic and Ivan Miladinovic.

Coach David Duncan on the other hand would have the luxury of fielding a blend of old and new guards which would give him a clue of the kind of players he would be working with in the coming season.

His skipper Owusu Brenya would lead the charge with the likes of Theophilus Nyame, Edwin Tuffour, Jackson Owusu and Kojo Poku all expected to play a key role.

Originally, Kotoko were scheduled to play Greek side Veria as a replacement for Romanian giants, FC Petrolul Ploiesti but all fell through.

Sunday’s match would be Kotoko’s third international game after English side Stoke City in the 1950s and against German team, Bayern Leverkusen in 1981.
