Kotoko to blow away Storm : In MTN FA Cup Round of 16

The excitement in this season’s Ghana Premier League is expected to be extended to the MTN FA Cup as 16 clubs vie for a place in the August 28 final at the newly constructed Cape Coast Stadium this weekend.

Guided by a number of major upsets, including the elimination of arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak by Division One outfit Samartex from the competition, rejuvenated Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who are gradually coming into the picture after a poor run in the domestic league, could add Storm Academy to their victims as they square off at the Nkawkaw Park tomorrow.

Kotoko’s General Manager, Opoku Nti, has already promised to prove the sceptics wrong by winning a domestic double of the Premier League and the FA Cup as an icing on the cake for the Porcupine Warriors. Kotoko, who are last year’s finalists, are bent on redeeming their image and are in no mood to allow the Division Two side to derail their ambitions tomorrow.

Following their stunning victory over Hearts, Samartex FC are exuding confidence as they host Liberty Professionals at Samreboi tomorrow.

Samartex skipper, Isaac Kofi Nunoo, will lead a confident home side comprising players such as Alfred Nelson, Prosper Afenu, Gideon Kumordzie, Michael Anderson, Michael Addo, Emmanuel Essuman, Kweku Aidoo, Sulemana Abubakar and Clement Abbey who are poised to cause another upset against the scientific soccer lads.

Liberty, who could miss the services of their lead goal scorer, Latif Blessing, who is on national assignment in Japan, will fall on Bernard Arthur, Felix Addo, Daniel Kodie and Richard Antwi as they seek to avenge their defeat to Samartex at the same stage of the competition last year.

Wa All Stars, who have slipped to the second spot on the Premier League log after a good start to the season, will play Mighty Royals on Sunday.

On Sunday, Elmina Sharks play host to Tema-based True Democracy at the Nduom Stadium at Elmina, Okwawu United welcome Sekondi Hasaacas to Nkawkaw, while RTU host Bechem United in Tamale.

In the other fixtures slated for this afternoon, Wa Rockets will welcome Asokwa Deportivo to the Wa Stadium, while WAFA host Division Two side Emmanuel FC at their favourite Sogakope grounds.
