La win McDan Homowo Gala

A star-studded La side, featuring players of the just-ended Ghana Premier League season, pipped a youthful Tema side 1-0 to win the 2017 McDan Ga-Adangme Homowo Unity Gala last Sunday at the La Town Park.

With the game petering out for a stalemate, out-of-contract Hearts of Oak striker, Kwame Kizito, popped up with the winner midway through the second half to send the partisan home crowd into raptures.

In-form Kizito, who had threatened the Tema defence throughout the game, caught his markers off guard and pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area of Tema and slotted home calmly past the goalie.

Other members of the high-profile La squad included players such as Ghanaian internationals Isaac Twum and Samuel Sarfo (Liberty Professionals), Samudeen Ibrahim (Hearts of Oak) and Ashittey Ollenu (Kumasi Asante Kotoko). However, it was Benson Annan who won the Best Player of the Tournament Award, pocketing $200 from the sponsors, McDan Group of Companies.

The winning team received a trophy, medals and a cash prize of $2,000 and products from Twellium Ghana Limited, while Tema received $1,000, medals and products from Twellium Ghana.

Earlier, Nungua also defeated Teshie 4-3 on penalties to claim third place and also receive products from the sponsors.

The Guest of Honour for the final, former President Jerry John Rawlings, congratulated the organisers for using sports to promote peace in the country.
