Medeama protest FA decision to dock points

Premier league club, Medeama SC has appealed against a decision by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association last Monday to declare them losers of the 12th week clash with Great Olympic at the Akoon Park, Tarkwa.

The Tarkwa-based club were docked three points and three goals which were credited to Olympics despite winning the clash 1-0 for fielding unqualified player.

The disciplinary committee ruled in favour of Olympics who had protested that Medeama’s player Nana Kofi Babil was ineligible to feature in the March 2 clash because he had received three yellow cards prior to the game.

Yesterday, Medeama confirmed on their Twitter page that they had appealed against the decision to declare them losers of the match and urged their supporters to remain calm as the club seeks justice.

“We successfully filed an appeal on Tuesday against the Ghana Premier League’s decision to dock us points over claims of fielding an unqualified player against Great Olympics.

“We urge our fans to remain calm as we continue the legal battle,” the message stated.

In a statement last Monday, the club rejected the disciplinary committee’s ruling and indicated they would “fight the matter to its logical conclusion”.

“We are scandalised by the decision to award boardroom points to our opponents and will not rest until the well deserved points accrued on the football pitch is restored”.

The club indicated also that they would explore other options for justice, including petitioning Switzerland-based Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

Medeama down to 7th place

Following the deduction of six points from their buildup (three points awarded to Olympics as winners of the match and an additional three points from accumulated points from previous matches in accordance with Premier League regulations), Medeama now slip from the top spot to the seventh position on the league log on 24 points.

Apart from losing points, Medeama are to pay fines totalling GH¢5,000, part of which will be paid to Olympics in accordance with Premier League regulations.
