Nasrawa Orisco defeats Agege Shiabu to win 2023 Ursula Owusu Cup

In a thrilling showdown at Liberty Park in Dansoman, Nasrawa ORISCO emerged triumphant over Agege Shiabu with a 1-0 scoreline on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

This victory secured their title in the 11th edition of the Ursula Cup, an event organised by Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West.

Post-match, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful extended her appreciation to the teams representing the 10 electoral areas within the constituency for their spirited participation and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Explaining her motivation for resurrecting the competition, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful emphasized its role in fostering unity within the constituency. She expressed eagerness for even fiercer competition in the forthcoming year.

Opting to host the competition instead of a birthday party, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful, a devoted football enthusiast, saw it as an opportunity to unearth and nurture local talent.

The competition drew the presence of former national football stars, including Charles Asampong (Charles Taylor), Peter Ofori Quaye, John Paintsil, Sammy Adjei, Dan Quaye, and Augustine Arhinful.

Taking advantage of the occasion, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful, who also serves as the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, encouraged the youth to engage with the various digital programs initiated by her Ministry and the Government to enhance their prospects.

Commencing on September 9, 2023, the competition spanned a month and involved 10 communities. As a gesture of appreciation, all participants received GH₵5,000, with the winning team securing GH₵12,000, and the runner-up receiving GH₵7,000.

Key player for Nasrawa, "Schemer" Kwabla Kobby attributed their victory to discipline, consistent performance, and superior skills demonstrated on the day. He expressed gratitude towards Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful for her ongoing support in recognizing and promoting sports talent within the constituency.

"Schemer" voiced optimism that some of his teammates might secure professional contracts, having left a strong impression during the competition.

The tournament featured group stage matches leading up to the final, with ten teams from the constituency competing in a round-robin format. Augustine Arhinful, former Black Stars captain, chaired the planning committee and was assisted by Ghanaian football legend Mohammed Polo, ensuring the event's resounding success.
