Nine players honoured in NASCO GPL awards as Aduana’s Marfo strikes late again

Aduana Stars forward Emmanuel Marfo continued his fine form in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season by earning his second NASCO Man of the Match award during Week 5 of the campaign. He was among nine standout players recognised across the weekend’s fixtures for their exceptional performances.

Marfo’s late heroics sealed a dramatic comeback for the Ogya Boys, who beat Berekum Chelsea 2-1 at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa Ahenkro. The striker struck in the 88th minute to complete the turnaround and hand Aduana Stars a crucial victory that keeps them firmly in contention for the league title.

The Week 5 fixtures began on Friday in Tarkwa, where Medeama SC edged Dreams FC 2-1. Abdul Salaam was instrumental in the victory, opening the scoring in the 19th minute and inspiring his side to the top of the table. His all-round display earned him the first NASCO Man of the Match award of the week.

Saturday’s matches produced equally impressive individual performances. Nations FC’s defender Hardina Bariu stood tall in a goalless draw against Asante Kotoko, displaying composure and leadership at the back to secure the award in Kumasi. In another fixture, Vision FC’s forward Abdul Naseru Sumaila netted twice to dismantle defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars, earning him a well-deserved accolade for his attacking brilliance.

Sunday’s action provided more drama and goals. At Dormaa, Marfo’s decisive strike for Aduana Stars capped a spirited comeback and earned him his second NASCO recognition of the season. Elsewhere, Abdul Ganiyu Muftaw powered Young Apostles to a 2-0 victory over Basake Holy Stars with an inspired performance that also saw him named Man of the Match.

In Samreboi, Emmanuel Mamah of FC Samartex 1996 was the creative heartbeat of his side’s 2-1 win over Eleven Wonders FC, while in Anyinase, Karela United’s Ali Alhassan stood out in their 1-1 draw with Berekum Chelsea for his resilience and leadership.

Hohoe United’s Daniel Osei Senior put on a dominant midfield display at the Hohoe Sports Stadium as his team overcame Swedru All Blacks 2-0, securing his first NASCO Man of the Match award of the season.

The week’s fixtures wrapped up on Monday night when Hearts of Lions held Accra Hearts of Oak to a goalless stalemate. Midfielder Etse Dogli’s control and vision in the centre of the park earned him the final NASCO honour for Week 5.

Each winner received a NASCO ultrasonic humidifier and a pressing iron as part of the official prize package.

The Week 5 results once again highlighted the unpredictability of the Ghana Premier League, with Medeama’s rise to the summit and a series of tight encounters keeping the title race wide open.
