Over 200 PE teachers to be upgraded to CAF-licensed coaches

The Parliament of Ghana, as part of its efforts to develop football across the country, will finance the training and upgrading of 275 Physical Education (PE) teachers from each constituency to become CAF-licensed coaches.

This initiative, marking 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana, will see the selected teachers trained by CAF-certified instructors. The goal is to enable these coaches to return to their constituencies and share their knowledge, offering players at the grassroots level the technical and tactical guidance needed in football.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Parliament initiated a special cup match between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on July 17. Kotoko defeated Hearts 2-1 to lift the trophy and is scheduled to play DC United in the United States next month as part of the prize package.

Rt. Hon. Alban S. K. Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, reiterated the significant role football plays in a country's development. Speaking at the review meeting after the historic match, Speaker Bagbin noted that football is unique and has become the passion of the nation, emphasizing the need to capitalize on it to promote the tenets of democracy in Ghana.

“The UK has leveraged football to promote every aspect of their development. We must also use football to drive the nation forward, promote democracy, and ultimately foster economic development,” he said.

He added, “Ghana has all it takes to succeed in football, and we must not let this opportunity slip away but tap into its advantages to grow and educate people about the need to embrace democracy.”
