Royal Captain ends on high

Outgoing captain of the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi, Mr Martin Poku, has described his two-year reign as a success.

With support from companies such as Latex Foam, Ashfoam and Zipnet, he put together a well-attended 18-hole golf competition at the club last weekend.

During his reign, he succeeded in the reconstruction of a hole 17 green referred to as the Dream Hole and created the Captain’s Corner which hosted dignitaries after every competition.

“My tenure also witnessed many developments, a perfect example is the  Course which is now in all time good shape.” he added.

In the event itself, M. Owusu-Bonsu,  finished first in the men’s Group A after recording a net score 70,  beating Y.A. Boateng on the count back.

Nixon, Daniel Ntim and S. Frimpong, followed with net scores of 73, 74 and 77 respectively.

The men’s Group B was dominated by EA Prempeh who shot a score of 71 net, while Sam Okyere, George WK Instiful, R Osei Boakye and G Sampaney, followed with 73, 75, 76 and 77 scores respectively.

In the ladies category, an impressive score of 70 net handed Mary Kronborg the ultimate prize after she beat Nelly Hage on the count back, Vivian Dick, 73 net and M. Oduro followed in that order.

C.K. Kusi beat K. Bawuah to win the seniors event, while Effah Poku dominated the pros category. James Larry, 78 net, and Kwame Korsah, 80 net trailed in second and third places.

Kelvin Kusi shot a net score of 51 to pick the youth ultimate prize, with Nana Agyemang following in second position with 62 net score.

Meanwhile, Jonny Owusu, President of Royal Club, is expected to host the forthcoming President’s Putter this Sunday at the club.
