This was after Coach Samuel Boadu’s side was held to a 1-1 draw by Niger in the opening match last Friday.

The Ghanaians will climax the group assignment with a crucial duel against the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The Satellites nearly ran away with a 1-0 victory over Niger but for a late equaliser. However, goalkeeper Daniel Afful gave his team something to cheer about after he was voted as the best player of the match.

Afful was instrumental in preventing his side from conceding a goal in the first half with some important saves that denied Niger an early lead.

Mustapha Yakubu got the breakthrough for the Satellites from a set piece which he brilliantly curled into the back of the net.

The Nigeriens returned from recess with a different game plan and determination to get the equaliser as they kept pushing forward.

In the process, Afful became the last line of defence for the Satellites as he displayed exceptional reflexes to save the Ghanaians from giving away the slim lead.

Unfortunately, the heroics of the Right to Dream Academy goalkeeper was stretched to the limit as he finally conceded later in the game.

That notwithstanding, the organisers of the tournament still believed his contribution to his team was exceptional; hence, naming him as the best player of the day.
