St Augustine’s, Aggrey Memorial to defend titles in Sprite Basketball Championship

Defending champions, St Augustine’s College, and Aggrey Memorial AME Zion Senior High School (SHS) will face a tough battle to defend their titles when the  Senior High School basketball competition, Sprite Ball Championship, tips off on December 28 in Accra.

The three-day competition, scheduled for the El Wak Stadium, will feature a total of 26 Senior High Schools with 16 of them campaigning for honours in the boys category and 10 institutions in the girls contest.

Augusco and Aggrey were crowned champions of the respective boys and girls division at the Sprite Ball Championship in January this year, and will once again enter into the contest as favourites on account of their rich experience in  basketball.

There are three debutants in this year’s contest including Volta-based Three Town SHS (girls) as well as Sacred Heart SHS (boys) and West African SHS (girls).

The  Ghana Lebanon and Islamic Secondary School is the only private school that will compete in the attractive competition.

Former champions Presbyterian Boys SHS – Legon, Presbyterian SHS, Osu and Sacred Heart SHS will represent the Greater Accra Region in the boys division.

Four-time champions Mfantsipim School, Adisadel College and reigning champions St Augustines’s College  will represent the Central Region, while champions, Aggrey and Wesley Girls High School complete  in the girls contingent for the region.

The Eastern Region contingent is made up of Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS),Pope John Secondary and Junior Seminary and Methodist Girls' High School (Mamfe).

The Volta region will be represented by Keta SHS and Mawuli SHS and Awudome SHS and debutantes Three Town SHS.

Rivals Opoku Ware School, Prempeh College and Kumasi Anglican SHS represent the Ashanti region in the boys division, while TI Ahmadiyya SHS and Kumasi Girls SHS complete the pack.

The Western region will be represented by St Johns and Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) and Ahantaman SHS.
