Stanbic, GCB and ABSA Shine as UMB extends lead in Bankers League

The 2025 Bankers Football League entered an exciting phase over the weekend as UMB maintained its position at the top of the table following another dominant display in Week 11 of the competition.

The matchday featured 16 teams across two venues — McDan Park and St. Thomas Aquinas SHS Park — with thrilling goals and tight finishes highlighting the weekend’s fixtures.

At McDan Park, UMB continued its fine form with an emphatic 6-2 victory over Republic Bank before sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw against NIB. The result saw UMB extend its lead at the summit of the table with 33 points and a +24 goal difference. GCB remained in close pursuit, defeating First Bank 1-0 to stay second with 32 points and a +12 goal difference.

Elsewhere, ABSA edged GTCO 1-0 and earlier fell 0-1 to Ecobank but still managed to remain fourth on the log with 26 points. Ecobank also recorded a narrow 1-0 win against ABSA and a 1-1 draw with BoG to climb to ninth with 20 points.

At the St. Thomas Aquinas Park, Stanbic Bank impressed with back-to-back 2-1 victories over OmniBSIC and Access Bank. The results lifted Stanbic to fifth position on the table with 26 points. Meanwhile, BoG secured a slim 1-0 win over CBG before drawing 1-1 with Ecobank to move to eighth place with 20 points.

UBA had a mixed weekend, thrashing Cal Bank 4-1 before holding Zenith Bank to a goalless draw, though they remain bottom of the standings with six points. OmniBSIC’s inconsistent form continued with a 1-0 win over First Bank, a 1-1 draw with CBG, and a narrow 1-2 defeat to Stanbic Bank, leaving them sixth with 23 points.

CBG, despite a 1-0 win over Access Bank and a draw with OmniBSIC, stayed seventh with 21 points, while NIB’s strong performance against UMB helped them consolidate third position with 28 points.

After eleven weeks of competition, UMB leads the table with 33 points, followed by GCB with 32 points and NIB with 28 points. At the bottom, UBA, SG and Cal Bank continue to struggle to climb out of the relegation zone.
