Beverage distributors, T. T. Brothers, have given the maiden Prampram Homowo Hockey Gala a lifeline with a GHc 2,000 cheque presentation plus different kinds of products as the one-day competition pushes off today at the Anglican Park at Prampram.
The request for sponsorship was said to have come to the company quite late but because the gala was to commonmerate the one celebration of the passing of Ghana’s President John Evans Atta Mills, T. T. Brothers had to dole out its ‘widow’s mite.’
The company has, however, promised to give full sponsorship to what would become an annual competition from next year to honour the late president posthumously.
Former First Lady, Ernestina Naadu Mills, would be joined by former Youth and Sports Minister, E. T. Mensah, as special guests in Prampram.
The two, who hails from Prampram, are expected to add colour and panache to the competition being put together by an aspiring MP for the area, Lengi Chawe-Nartey, under the patronage of the Greater Accra Hockey Association.
Late President Mills was one-time Ghana’s finest hockey player and it was under his presidency that Ghana had its first ever and only hockey stadium.
It would feature five of the senior clubs in the Greater Accra Hockey League, Veterans, Citizens International, NDK Financiers, Mulstistix and SAPHOLDA.
The teams arrived last night and were housed by the owners of Sea Lane Hotel in Prampram and would be expected to join former Minister of State, Dr Nii Noi Ashong, in Kpon after the gala for a special Homowo party.
