Tanko hails tough Ghana Premier League competition
Coach Ibrahim Tanko has described the ongoing Ghana Premier League as one of the most competitive seasons in recent years, stressing that there are no “small teams” in the competition anymore.
Medeama coach said the level of preparation and determination displayed by all participating clubs had made the league unpredictable, as every team now poses a serious challenge both at home and away.
“Generally, the Premier League is very tough, especially this season. All the teams have prepared very well, so it’s not always the case that you have to dominate to win matches,” he said during an interview with his team's website.
Tanko said while Medeama’s current position at the top of the table was encouraging, it was too early to talk about winning the league, since the season was still in its early stages and there were many more games to play.
“The league is still young, and we are taking it one match at a time. It’s too early to talk about the title, but our focus is on maintaining consistency and improving game after game,” he said.
The coach expressed satisfaction with the return of some of his key players, including striker Prince Owusu, whose recovery from injury has boosted the team’s attacking options.
He noted that the presence of these experienced players has strengthened the squad’s overall balance and competitiveness.
“We have a strong group now with the return of some important players like Prince Owusu. His presence, along with others, gives us more options and confidence going forward,” Tanko stated.
Medeama currently sits at the summit of the Ghana Premier League table with 13 points from six matches, and Tanko is hopeful his side can build on their strong start to consolidate their position in the coming weeks.
