This is how much Antoine Semenyo will earn after finalising Man City deal

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo is set for a significant financial boost after edging closer to a high-profile move from Bournemouth to Manchester City, with reports indicating that his wages will more than double once the deal is completed.

Manchester City are poised to secure the signature of the 26-year-old winger after agreeing to meet his £65 million release clause, which must be activated by January 10. The move is expected to be finalised before the weekend, with Semenyo scheduled to undergo a medical following Bournemouth’s Premier League fixture against Tottenham.

The Guardian reported on December 30 that Semenyo is in line to earn a basic salary of around £150,000 a week, excluding performance-related incentives, on a proposed five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium. That figure represents a substantial increase on his current earnings at Bournemouth, reflecting City’s status as one of the Premier League’s highest paying clubs.

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson has suggested that the Ghana international’s total weekly earnings could rise closer to £200,000 once bonuses are factored in.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson explained: “Well, it’s been reported in a slightly odd way because it’s been reported that that’s his basic and it includes his incentives, but it can’t be both.

“I mean, I think the reality is I would expect him to be on £150k basic at this sort of time with City. I would think the average all in at City now is £200-225k, something like that.

“I think he’ll expect to be on £200k a week, £10m a year if he’s playing and City are achieving on the field.”

Borson added that City’s wage structure makes such figures realistic, given the club’s overall salary commitments in recent seasons.

“I think you should work on the basis that a player signed for £65m at City is going to be taking £200k a week as a package, including sort of pretty basic incentives,” he said.

“Not his basic salary, but the sorts of things that he will expect as a minimum to be earning within that.

“Obviously, we don’t know, but if you look at City’s overall wage bill, that’s what’s implied that it must be around those sorts of levels.”

City have consistently ranked among the Premier League’s biggest spenders on wages, although their total salary bill dipped slightly from £412.6 million to £408.4 million last season.

Despite strong interest from Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham, Semenyo has reportedly made it clear that his preference is to join Pep Guardiola’s side. City are the only club to have made formal contact with Bournemouth, strengthening their position in the race.

The winger featured for Bournemouth in their 3 2 defeat to Arsenal on January 3, even as speculation intensified over his future. His manager, Andoni Iraola, admitted that Semenyo’s departure could be imminent but stressed that no agreement had yet been signed.

“I think it could be the last game,” Iraola said ahead of the Spurs match.

“That is my personal opinion, but there is nothing agreed and nothing signed. It is my personal opinion as I understand the market and the noise but there is nothing agreed right now.

“He, right now, is our player and I hope it continues.”

Iraola also described the Ghana international as “almost impossible to replace”, underlining his importance to the Cherries.

Semenyo has been in impressive form this season, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in 20 appearances in all competitions. If the move is completed, he will become Manchester City’s joint fifth most expensive signing and one of the highest paid Ghanaian footballers in history, even though he will still rank below the club’s top earners.
