UG win Rexona UPAC Champ

University of Ghana (UG) last Saturday dethroned Accra Polytechnic to claim the 2016 Rexona Universities Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship title after a hard fought 45-44 victory, courtesy a late three-pointer.

The controversial final was decided by Emmanuel Wolff's spectacular shot in the final 38 seconds of the game to restore UG’s lead.

The resultant excessive jubilation by the vociferous home crowd at the UG basketball court led to the stoppage of the electronic scoreboard and also saw the Accra Poly team walking off the court after accusing the home fans of throwing missiles at their bench with only 16 seconds to go.

Accra Poly were persuaded  to return to the court by the organisers after a 15-minute hold-up but were unable to find their rhythm following some debatable calls by the referees, as well as excellent ball retention by the UG team.

Team UG were presented with a cash prize of GH¢3,000, as well as products from Rexona, Fanyogo and MTN, while runners-up, Accra Poly, received GH¢1,500 for their effort.
