University of Ghana to host 2024 Africa Basketball Festival
The University of Ghana has been announced as the official host of the highly anticipated 2024 Africa Basketball Festival.
The festival, now in its 4th edition, will take place from October 24-27, 2024, and is expected to bring together ten countries for an exciting four-day event combining basketball, fashion, music, and cultural exchange.

The Africa Basketball Festival, recognised as one of Africa's premier lifestyle and sporting events, has become a significant platform for celebrating and promoting basketball culture across the continent. This year’s edition promises to feature competitive basketball matches, talent showcases, and performances by 15 fashion brands and top musicians.
The University of Ghana, with its modern sports facilities and longstanding commitment to sports excellence, is set to provide an ideal backdrop for the festival.
The Director of the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, Dr. Austin Luguterah, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: "We are honoured to serve as the host for the 2024 Africa Basketball Festival. This event aligns with our vision to promote sportsmanship, youth engagement, and unity across Africa. We are excited to welcome athletes and fans from ten participating countries to our campus."
The President of the Ghana Basketball Association, Ato Van Ess, echoed these sentiments, emphasising the importance of the university as the host venue. "The University of Ghana’s excellent facilities and commitment to youth development make it the perfect location for the festival. We see this as an opportunity to promote basketball as a unifying force in Ghana and across Africa," he said.
Thousands of spectators are expected to attend, with the festival providing a platform not only for sports but also for fashion and music collaborations, creating opportunities for youth empowerment and talent discovery.
