Defending champions, Accra Polytechnic, will have to see off the challenge of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST),  the Takoradi Polytechnic and the Zenith University College in Group A.

The champions are full of confidence heading into the contest which started yesterday at the University of Ghana Centre Court after thrashing Takoradi Polytechnic 78-43 to retain last Saturday's Ghana Polytechnic Students Association (GHAPSA) title in Kumasi, while accounting for Zenith to finish tops in zone two on April 2.

The Accra-based side must, however, be wary of the resurgent Ashanti regional champs, KNUST, who may prove to be a stumbling block to their chances at the round-robin stage.

In pool B, giant-killers, Marshalls University College find themselves alongside Kumasi Polytechnic, the University of Professional Studies and University of Cape Coast.

The group appears evenly matched with all the teams having a realistic chance of progressing to the semi-finals of the flagship tertiary basketball competition.

The 2015 UPAC finals is expected to attract many dignitaries including the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, the  chairman of the Ghana Basketball Association, Mr David Addo-Ashong, as well as officials of the National Sports Authority and the University of Ghana Sports Directorate.
