VRA wins Golden Tulip Indece tourney
Golden Tulip Accra last Saturday hosted tennis enthusiasts to a tennis tournament to mark Ghana’s 60th Independence Day Anniversary celebrations.
It was fun and excitement as three teams made up of the Golden Tulip Tennis club, the Volta River Authority (VRA) tennis club and the Ghana Army Officers Mess Tennis Club (AMTEC) battled for the prestigious cup at stake.

The day was also used to raise funds to support the Christ Faith Orphanage at Fafraha as part of activities outlined by the hotel to mark Ghana’s 60th Anniversary.
In an address, General Manager of Golden Tulip Accra, Mr. Paul Kavanagh said the tournament was special as it marked the celebration of Ghana’s 60th birthday.
He commended Duraplast Ghana Ltd., SGS Ghana Limited and AUTOtune Ventures for supporting the hotel to organise the tennis tournament to mark the anniversary.
Events for the tennis competition comprised mixed doubles, ladies singles, men’s singles and men’s doubles. Team Tulip won two matches out of three sets played in the mixed doubles whiles VRA won one.
The ladies singles was also dominated by team Tulip as they won two out of three with team VRA taking one. Nine matches were also played in the men’s singles with Team AMTEC dominating with a resounding six out of the nine matches played whiles Team VRA took two.
The Men’s double also saw five matches with Team Tulip winning three. VRA won one whilst the last match was squatched. Overall points accrued saw VRA emerge ultimate winner with seven points taking home the prestigious cup at stake.
