WAFA set eyes on Top 4

WAFA coach, John Killa, says his side’s home win over giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko last Saturday did not come by chance, but was part of the Sagakope-based club's grand plan to finish among the best this season.

"We have set a target of finishing among the top four this season. Last season, our focus was more geared towards staying in the elite competition, but this season, we want to achieve more and the first match is the start of that journey," Coach John Killa told the Graphic Sports.

Killa, who masterminded the stunning win on the opening day of the 2015/16 Premier League, said the team’s primary focus was to remain in the elite league and they have adopted a strategy to achieve that. “So the win against Kotoko last Saturday, has given us more spring in our step to achieve more," he stated.

"I'm sure the win came as a big surprise to many, but we knew the effort we put in to achieve it. We have prepared well and put in a lot on the quiet during the pre-season.

"We consider it just one match off the number of matches we will be playing this season. However, a win against a huge club as Kotoko gives us a very good start. We will build on that for the rest of the season," Coach Killa said.

He also said his young men showed a high sense of tactical discipline and that they were not overawed by the stature of the Porcupine Warriors.

The Dutchman, who also led the young WAFA team to beat Kotoko 1-0 in their second round encounter last season, insisted they were not going to get complacent over the victory as they prepare for a tough, tricky encounters in the ensuing fixtures.

"After Kotoko, we play away to Chelsea; it will be a difficult trip and the conditions of play will be different. However, we are determined to remain on course so we will prepare appropriately for the tasks ahead to ensure that our target for this season is not derailed."
