The 31-year-old has committed to a four-year contract with Wolves, after losing his spot in Palace's starting lineup to Dean Henderson, whom the Eagles viewed as a better long-term option.

Johnstone, an England international frequently called up by Gareth Southgate, was not included in the squad for Euro 2024, with Southgate opting for Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, and Henderson.

Discussing Johnstone's arrival, Wolves' sporting director Matt Hobbs expressed his satisfaction, stating, "It's fantastic to bring in a player with such extensive Premier League experience and an international pedigree. We aimed to increase competition in the goalkeeping position, and Sam fits perfectly within our squad's needs and our overall strategy."

Hobbs highlighted Johnstone's maturity, noting that goalkeepers often peak later in their careers. "Sam is at an ideal age, and his addition will significantly enhance our squad's competitiveness," he added. "We prioritize good characters, and Sam not only brings quality but also fits well into our team culture. It's now up to him and the others to compete for the starting spot."

Johnstone's contract includes an option to extend for an additional year, with his immediate challenge being to unseat Jose Sa as Wolves' first-choice goalkeeper.
