Arsenal eye cut-price deal for Raheem Sterling, but move hinges on key condition

Arsenal are considering last-minute moves for Chelsea's Raheem Sterling or Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman as the transfer window draws to a close, having been approached about both players in the final 48 hours of the market.

Sterling, who has been informed he will not feature under Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, is reportedly interested in the switch. However, any potential deal would require Chelsea to resolve part of his contract and wage demands.

Mikel Arteta is in search of an explosive forward to bolster Arsenal's attacking options, particularly to ease the workload on Bukayo Saka, who faces a congested fixture schedule after the international break. Arteta's preference is to sign a player similar to Leandro Trossard, focusing on a lower budget acquisition that fits Arsenal's financial framework.

Arteta's previous working relationship with Sterling during their time together at Manchester City plays in the winger's favor. Despite questions about whether Sterling, now 29, still possesses the explosive qualities he once had, Arteta values his personality and winning mentality. Sterling’s familiarity with Arsenal’s tactical approach, which mirrors City's, is also seen as an advantage.

However, Arsenal are reluctant to pay a transfer fee for Sterling, making any deal complex. Sterling, currently earning £325,000 a week at Chelsea, would need to agree to fit within Arsenal’s wage structure, likely capping his salary at £150,000 per week.

Manchester United have also expressed interest in Sterling, with new sporting director Dan Ashworth, who knows Sterling from his time at the FA, showing admiration for the player. However, any deal with United is considered a "long shot."

Meanwhile, Coman has been offered to several major European clubs as Bayern Munich looks to reduce their wage bill. Arsenal have been evaluating the possibility of signing the French winger, but there is a belief that the market could present further opportunities as the window closes, potentially leading to bargain deals that were not previously available.
