Yeboah crowned Ghana’s Fastest Human

Emmanuel Yeboah of Kumasi Academy last Saturday won the boys’ 100 metres race in the second edition of the Standard Chartered-sponsored Ghana Fastest Human Under-18 held at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

Richard Seklorwu of T.I. Ahmadiya Secondary School (AMASS) and Isaac Botwe of Obrachire SHS followed in the second and third positions, respectfully.

In the girls’ 100 metres race, Latifa Ali of AMASS finished first ahead of Ernestina Ayi of Tema Comm. 8/1 JHS and third-placed Hor Halutie also of AMASS

Winners of both the boys and girls competitions earned a cash prize of GH¢3,000 each, with the second and third-placed athletes earning GH¢2,000 and GH¢1,000 respectively

Physical Education (P.E.) masters and schools of the winning athletes were given GH¢1,000 each for their athletes’ performance.

An ecstatic Yeboah, after receiving his winner’s prize, said we was looking forward to training hard to become a world champion just like Usain Bolt.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy minister of Youth and Sports, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, lauded the Ghana’s Fastest Human  concept, saying it will help Ghana's athletics to grow.

The competition organiser, Reks Brobby, thanked the sponsors for helping his course of unearthing young talents in the sport for the future.

Kweku Bedu-Addo, MD of Standard Chartered Bank, headline sponsor of the competition, urged the government to put invest in sports as corporate Ghana complement the effort by the state.

"I want to see government put more into sports in the country as corporate entities do their part," he said.

The event also saw national 100 and 200 metres champion, Solomon Afful and Shawkia Iddrisu, winning the men’s and women’s open 300 metres heats.
