Zhang wins Ghana-China Friendship Golf Invitational

Chinese national Mr Zhang Dong Jun won the Ghana-China Friendship Golf Invitational on Sunday with 43 points, holding off Stephen K. Afari by only two points in the Men's Group A Stableford scoring event.

Mr Zhang took advantage of the favourable weather conditions at the Celebrity Golf Course, Sakumono to claim the 18-hole event which was held in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

He finished ahead of Afari (41 points) and Felix Lewis Antonio who came in second and third place respectively.

In an interview after receiving a trophy and an $8,000 voucher from real estate developer Waylead Company, Mr Zhang said he was lucky because the Celebrity Golf Course had been his home course for about seven years.

He said for the 20 years that he has been resident in Ghana, he had enjoyed a very cordial relationship with all Ghanaians.

The Men's Group B was won by Maxwell Ababio who got 40 points. He was trailed by Yaw Asumang and Randy Adu Gyamfi in second and third place respectively.

The Women's competition was won by Vietnamese national Jenny Lee who recorded 35 points. She was joined on the podium by Mercy Werner (34 points) in second place and Christine Furler (31 points) who came third.
