Digital future in focus as Ghana welcomes Africa tech leaders to 2025 FDC Summit

The 2025 Future of Digital Countries (FDC) Africa Summit has been officially launched in Accra ahead of the event scheduled to take place tomorrow, November 27, 2025, at the Kempinski Hotel.

The Summit, held under the theme “Strengthening Africa’s Digital Future Through Innovation and Collaboration,” is designed to accelerate West Africa’s digital transformation by enhancing digital governance, innovation and cooperation among governments and private institutions.

The regional platform brings together policymakers, industry executives, innovators, academics, development partners and investors to deliberate on digital governance, infrastructure development, technological innovation and the creation of resilient digital systems to support inclusive economic growth.

Ghana was selected as host due to its reputation as one of Africa’s most advanced digital ecosystems, bolstered by a vibrant fintech sector, innovation-friendly policies and strong government commitment to digitalisation.

A major feature of this year’s Summit is the participation of a high-level Egyptian delegation representing what is considered one of the continent’s fastest-growing digital economies. Their involvement is expected to deepen South–South collaboration and drive new technology partnerships across Africa.

Speaking at the launch, the CEO of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Dzifa Gunu, said Ghana’s digital economy continues to expand due to consistent investment in innovation hubs, technology parks and programmes targeting young people. “Our aim is to create an environment where young innovators can build solutions that are relevant to Ghana and the continent,” he said.

He noted that the Centre has been implementing entrepreneurship and digital training initiatives to help start-ups build stronger business structures and attract investor support. He added that these programmes will continue as the Centre prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2026.

Mr Gunu explained that Ghana remains open to partnerships from across the continent, including Egypt, whose presence he said strengthens the Summit. He observed that both countries share a firm commitment to equipping young people with the skills required to succeed in an increasingly digital global economy.

The Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana described Ghana as a trusted partner in Africa’s digital advancement. He emphasised that the two countries enjoy long-standing cultural and economic ties, which continue to deepen through technology and innovation.

He explained that Egypt’s digital transformation agenda aligns with Ghana’s, making cooperation critical for building regional digital markets and supporting cross-border technology investments. “Africa must build its digital future together, not in isolation,” he said.

The Ambassador stated that Egypt’s delegation is ready to explore new collaboration opportunities with Ghanaian institutions and private companies. He identified potential joint projects in artificial intelligence, digital finance, cybersecurity and digital health, noting that such ventures would bring significant shared benefits.

The Executive Director of the Africa Center for Digital Transformation (ACDT), Mr Kwesi Atuahene, underscored the importance of creating digital systems that are trusted, secure and tailored to African needs. He said the continent’s youthful population presents a major opportunity, but only if countries prioritise investment in skills development and innovation.

Representing the Minister of Health, the Director for Research, Statistics and Information Management at the Ministry, Dr Wisdom Atiwoto, highlighted the role of digital tools and artificial intelligence in improving healthcare delivery. He outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at using technology to enhance hospital data management, strengthen supply chains and support maternal health outcomes.

The Summit is expected to culminate in stronger regional cooperation and new commitments to digital transformation as Africa positions itself for a technology-driven future.
