
Dominic Asamoah Danquah elected President of trawlers association
The Ghana Industrial Trawlers Association (GITA) has elected Dominic Asamoah Danquah as its new President to help steer the affairs of the association, which plays a crucial role in Ghana’s fishing industry.
Popularly known as Mr. Fish, Danquah is the Chief Executive Officer of A.S Domdanq Limited and Akrafi Fisheries Limited.
He was elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of GITA after garnering 22 votes to beat his closet rival who had 11 votes.
The AGM, the first in over two decades for the association, was attended by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur.
Unity
Addressing members of the GITA, Mr. Danquah emphasised the need for unity to propel the association to greater heights in order to enable members to continuously contribute to the progress of the fishing industry L.
“Unity is our greatest strength. It is our trump card in presenting a united and formidable front for the survival of this industry,” he said
He debunked certain misconceptions surrounding the trawling industry, describing them as unfair and counter -productive to the development of the country
“Our industry has been unfairly targeted with misinformation, which continues to tarnish our image and negatively affect our members. It’s time for us to correct these misconceptions and ensure Ghanaians truly understand the essential role we play,” he said
He further pledged to hit the ground running with his newly elected executive team, aiming to address longstanding issues and restore credibility to the industry.
“We are ready to bring clarity, tackle long-standing injustices, and reshape the public narrative. United in our purpose, we are confident we can chart a more equitable future for all stakeholders.”
The new GTA President further extended his appreciation to the outgoing executives, especially the immediate past president, Mr. Stephen Adjokatcher, for their dedication and service.
He also acknowledged the founding fathers of GITA for laying a solid foundation: “We are deeply grateful to the past leaders for their sacrifices and leadership. The baton has been handed to a new generation, young, vibrant, and full of energy. We will not let them down. We will build on their legacy while drawing from their vast experience,” he added.
The newly elected GITA Executive Team Members are: Dominic Asamoah Danquah – President, Kojo Ampratwum – Vice President, Danny Quaye – Secretary, Jerome Selorm Deameji – Financial Secretary and Ohene Nana Ampem Kessie – Treasurer.
